Isaiah 11:6 – Introduction

A Child Shall Lead Them: Isaiah’s Vision of Peace

“The wolf shall dwell with the lamb,
and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together;
and a little child shall lead them.”

— Isaiah 11:6 (ESV)

One of the most beautiful promises in all of Scripture is found in Isaiah’s vision of God’s coming kingdom. It is a picture not of fear, domination, or survival of the strongest—but of peace, trust, and restored harmony.

In Isaiah’s vision, animals that are natural enemies walk side by side. Predators and prey no longer threaten one another. And at the center of this scene stands a child—innocent, gentle, and unafraid—leading them all.

This is not merely poetic language. It is a prophetic picture of what God intends to accomplish in His creation.

A Kingdom Without Fear

From the beginning, violence and fear entered the world through sin. Human history has been shaped by conflict, power struggles, and oppression. Even nature itself reflects this brokenness.

But Isaiah shows us something different.

He shows us a world where fear no longer rules
Where strength no longer dominates
Where trust replaces threat
Where innocence is restored

The child leads not by force, but by peace.

The Heart of God’s Redemption

This vision fits beautifully with the broader message of Scripture: God’s purpose is not to abandon creation, but to heal it.

Through the Messiah—Jesus Christ—God is restoring what was broken:

  • Broken hearts
  • Broken relationships
  • Broken societies
  • Broken creation

The peace of Isaiah 11 is not escapism. It is God’s promise of renewal.

As Revelation later declares:

“Behold, I am making all things new.”
— Revelation 21:5

A Picture of Hope for Our Time

In a world filled with division, violence, and uncertainty, Isaiah’s vision speaks powerfully to us today.

It reminds us that:

  • God’s story does not end in chaos
  • Evil does not have the final word
  • Fear is not humanity’s destiny
  • Peace is coming

And remarkably, that peace is led by humility, not domination.

By a child.

Living Toward That Kingdom Now

While this promise points to the future, it also calls us to live differently now.

Followers of Christ are invited to reflect this coming kingdom in the present:

  • Choose reconciliation over resentment
  • Choose mercy over revenge
  • Choose humility over pride
  • Choose love over fear

Every act of grace becomes a small preview of God’s coming peace.

Conclusion

Isaiah’s vision is more than a beautiful image. It is a promise.

A promise that one day:

  • All that is broken will be healed
  • All that is divided will be reunited
  • All that is violent will be transformed

And at the heart of it stands a child—leading creation into rest.

May this vision strengthen our hope and shape our lives until that day comes.

Here is a wonderful song about this glorious theme:
